Invisalign Lake Haven

Reinvent your smile with Invisalign in Lake Haven — the latest and greatest orthodontic treatment

Looking for an alternative to traditional braces? You’re not alone. Here at Advance Family Dental, we see more and more patients looking for a subtler, less invasive solution to straight teeth. The good news is that there’s a simple, near-invisible option available right here in Lake Haven — Invisalign.

Invisalign involves clear plastic aligners that are custom-fitted to your teeth. Throughout the treatment, new aligners are made to fit the new alignment of the teeth, ensuring the treatment moves along based on your individual progress. Your dentist might recommend changing aligners once every two weeks, or once every other week depending on the progress of your treatment.

Invisalign is a popular choice for orthodontic patients thanks to the near-invisible appearance and the flexible nature of the aligners. When it’s time to eat or brush your teeth, simply remove the aligners and give them a rinse — it’s a simple, flexible and effective treatment for misaligned teeth.

How are the aligners made?

The first step in the Invisalign treatment process is to book a consultation with an Invisalign-trained dentist. Your dentist will examine your teeth and jaws, then provide recommendations around the best possible treatment options. You might also discuss treatment costs, budgeting and how long it will take to straighten your teeth.

If Invisalign is appropriate, your dentist will then map out a customised digital treatment plan that showcases the transformation of your smile using Invisalign. Once the plan has been approved, the aligners will be made.

Before you start Invisalign treatment, we recommend booking a check-up and cleaning to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. This will help avoid any unnecessary risks during the treatment.

What is more effective: braces or Invisalign?

The effectiveness of Invisalign depends on the severity and complexity of your condition.

Invisalign can treat common orthodontic conditions like crooked and crowded teeth, overbite, underbite, crossbite and open bite. However, Invisalign causes smaller movements between the teeth compared to traditional braces — meaning more complex conditions cannot be treated with Invisalign alone.

In this case, traditional braces would be the recommended treatment option.

For a simple misalignment of the teeth or jaws, a dentist would recommend Invisalign as a potential treatment option. The one thing to remember with Invisalign is vigilance and commitment — for the best possible results, the aligners must be worn for the full 20 – 22 hours each day and should only be taken out for special occasions, to eat or to floss and brush your teeth.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

The length of treatment depends on a number of different factors including the complexity of your case and how often you wear your aligners. In the initial consultation, your Invisalign-trained dentist should be able to determine how long treatment will take based on your condition and your needs.

On average, Invisalign treatments take around 12 to 18 months, but you might start seeing results in a matter of weeks! Your dentist will schedule regular check-ups (around 6 to 8 weeks apart) to check on the progress of the treatment and make adjustments where necessary.

For the best possible results, we recommend wearing your aligners for 20 – 22 hours each day.

How much does Invisalign in Lake Haven cost?

The cost of Invisalign varies from dentist to dentist. It also varies based on the complexity of your condition, the length of your treatment and the number of aligners required to achieve the smile you’ve always wanted.

Other FAQs about Invisalign in Lake Haven

  • Is Invisalign covered by Medicare or health funds?

Invisalign toes the line between cosmetic and orthodontic treatment, and unfortunately, it is not covered by Medicare. Generally speaking, Medicare does not cover dental in Australia unless it is for children under the age of 17 (see our article on the Child Dental Benefits Scheme).

If you’re looking for more financial support for Invisalign treatment, we recommend looking into private health. Health funds like BUPA, HIF, NIB, AHM and HCF can cover part of the treatment.

  • How often will I need to change my aligners?

It depends on the progress and effectiveness of the treatment. However, we recommend changing the aligner once every two weeks. If you’re feeling unsure about changing aligners or the progress of your treatment, please contact the team at Advance Family Dental or raise the issue with your Invisalign-trained dentist in your regularly scheduled check-up.

  • Do I have to wear my aligners while I sleep?

Yes. You will need to wear your aligners for 20 – 22 hours a day, every day for the duration of your treatment. You should only take out your aligners to eat, drink, floss and brush your teeth, or potentially for special occasions.

  • My dentist mentioned “attachments” for Invisalign. What does that mean?

If your dentist has mentioned “attachments”, they are referring to Invisalign’s SmartForce attachments. These are small tooth-coloured shapes that are attached to your teeth and serve as handles, giving the aligners something to push against to move your teeth into position with the right amount of force.

Your Invisalign aligners fit smoothly and tightly around these attachments, so they are barely noticeable.

  • Can I get my aligners all at once?

No. You will be given enough aligners to last between your regularly scheduled check-ups (around 3 or 4 aligners between appointments scheduled 6 to 8 weeks apart).

We will set out a customised treatment plan to ensure the best results possible. By staggering out the aligners, we can help control the process and ensure your success.
