Inlays & Onlays

Talk to our dedicated dentists about dental inlays and onlays on the Central Coast.

Advance Family Dental Lake Haven provides dental inlays and onlays to new and existing patients on the Central Coast.

We can restore the full strength of your tooth even when large cavities are present and offer a range of materials you can choose from so you can be certain your inlay or onlay will stand the test of time.

What are dental inlays and onlays?

While many cavities can be treated with a traditional filling, larger cavities that are unable to be repaired with simple white fillings may require a dental inlay or onlay to repair the tooth and ensure no further damage is done.

Also known as ‘indirect fillings’, inlays and onlays are useful for restoring the full strength and structure of the affected tooth and are made in a sophisticated dental laboratory from either porcelain, composite resin or gold alloy.

What is the procedure for an inlay or onlay?

When you drop in to see one of our dentists for inlays or onlays, we will begin by removing the damaged areas of the tooth, then we’ll take an impression of the affected tooth. This impression is then sent onto the lab that will custom manufacture your inlay or onlay from the material you’ve selected to best suit your needs.

During your first visit, we’ll also put in a temporary filling to treat the cavity in the short term and prevent further decay occurring while your inlay or onlay is being manufactured.

Once your new inlay or onlay arrives at our practice, we’ll call you in for your second appointment.

Your temporary filling will be removed during this visit and your new inlay or onlay will be cemented into place. The result is a very natural looking and smooth tooth which is also very strong. You will be able to eat on it straight away.
