Looking for longer looking teeth? Contact us about our crown lengthening service on the Central Coast.
If you feel that your teeth appear to be too short, it could be because they are covered up by excess gum tissue at the base. This is commonly known as a ‘gummy smile’ and can be corrected with a crown lengthening treatment at our Central Coast practice.
Crown lengthening will not only improve the cosmetic aspect of your smile, but can also help to restore damaged teeth and prepare a tooth for a new crown fitting.
Come and see one of the experienced dentists at Advance Family Dental Lake Haven to see if you are a candidate for a crown lengthening treatment.
What is crown lengthening?
Crown lengthening is essentially the removal of excess gum tissue around the tooth. Too much gum tissue may make the tooth appear shorter than it actually is, and crown lengthening is a common preparation technique for restorative procedures such as the application of a dental crown or bridge.
What are the benefits of crown lengthening?
Crown lengthening will make your teeth appear to be longer, which will improve the cosmetic quality of your teeth and eliminate the condition commonly referred to as ‘gummy smile’.
It also will reduce your risk of developing gum disease and can be used to prepare teeth that have broken off just below the gum line for the application of a new dental crown or bridge. Crown lengthening also protects your jawbone from the installation of a new crown by creating additional space between the crown and your jawbone.
What is involved in a crown lengthening procedure?
Our expert dentists will remove excess gum tissue and contour your gums to achieve your desired look or to prepare the tooth for a dental crown. The remaining gum tissue is then stitched into place to hold the new contour and left to heal.
Please keep in mind that it may take several weeks to notice the results as swelling in the gum tissue resides as you heal.
